My Journey to Mindfulness
I started Meditating over 30 years ago, wow. That's quite a long time. I did retreats with Richard Moss, Ram Dass, along with many other renowned spiritual teachers. I also explored shamanism with Jonathan Horowitz and Arwyn Dreamwalker.
During this time, I was studying Transpersonal Psychology with Barbara Somers and Ian Gordon-Brown. I contemplated becoming a zen nun and went to live in a zen temple while I considered this. Along with the intense meditation practice, I learnt a unique form of mindful movement, Zen Dance. Marriage and a family called me in a different direction.
Back in the UK, I trained as a counsellor and body therapist, working for the NSPCC, counselling adult survivors of child abuse. Before setting up my own private practice and making a home. Making a home meant planting a 36-acre clear-fell site with native trees to create a woodland. We built our own home and started an organic farm. During this time I joined a meditation group at the local Samatha Buddhist Centre.
Finding Mindfulness happened by chance 4 years ago; I went to an introductory morning and have not looked back. In 2017 I enrolled on the 8-week MBSR course, then in 2018, I enrolled on a twelve-month MBCT Teacher Training course with The Nottingham Centre for Mindfulness. In 2019 I completed The Present, a mindful wellbeing course for primary schools. I also began my Shinrin Yoku training whilst developing my own Mindfulness In Nature courses. Currently, I am studying with Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield to deliver their mindfulness programme.
As you can see, I have found “my thing”. I find Mindfulness to be a direct route to inner knowing, self compassion and wholeness. It would be a joy for me to facilitate your Mindful journey.
